About Black Mountain Camp

Black Mountain Camp was located on the shores of Silver Lake in Whatcom County, Washington near the town of Maple Falls.
Before being purchased by the BSA in the early 1930’s, it was owned by H.P. Jukes, the council Treasurer.
General Floyd Hansen and Hugh ‘Brick’ Eldridge Carr, Eagle scouts of Bellingham Council Troop 5, each camped at this location as early as 1918.
In 1925, Bellingham Council held the first organized camp program at this location under the name ‘Camp H. P. Jukes’.
In 1926, the name was changed back to Black Mountain Camp.

2012 marked the final year of camp and the property was sold shortly afterward.
It is now run as a private camp under the name Camp Saturna. Although it is no longer owned by the BSA,
occasional scouting events continue to be held on the property.

During the era of operation, the camp served the Bellingham Council, Whatcom County Council,
Mount Baker Area Council, and Mount Baker Council.
